Cara is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where during her last semester she interned at the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty as part of the University of Pittsburgh’s Semester in DC program. While at the Law Center, she composed policy memos on issues such as homeless children’s right to a public education under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, as well as assisted in an initiative to educate the public and gather data about the experience of renters in the foreclosure crisis under the Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act.

Previous to interning at the Law Center, Cara was a certified legal intern at Neighborhood Legal Services Association in Pittsburgh, where she advised and represented clients in the courtroom in landlord tenant disputes. Through this work, she witnessed firsthand the policy changes that are needed to better assist low-income families to prevent homelessness.

Throughout law school, Cara was active in the Pitt Legal Income Sharing Foundation (PLISF), a student run non-profit that raises money through events and donations to support and promote student interest and practice in public interest law. As a member of PLISF’s Executive Board in 2008, she co-chaired PLISF’s annual auction, which raised $35,000 for students working in public interest.

While an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh, Cara was president of her campus chapter of Students Taking Action Now, Darfur (STAND) and led a campus-wide campaign to educate students on the genocide in Darfur. Cara is also a certified religious school instructor in Reform Judaism and taught 8th and 9th grade for six years while she was a student.

Cara received a BA in History and Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and a JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
