In the coming months, Congress will consider legislation to reauthorize the federal Child Nutrition Programs. This reauthorization includes the successful Women, Infants, and Children program (WIC), which reaches millions of children every year and is vital resource for many families.
Last week, the Urban Institute released an interactive report that provides information on the number and portion of children in each state and congressional district who are eligible for WIC based on their incomes. In doing so, it gives Members of Congress and their staffs a sense of how many young children in their districts are potentially affected by the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. It also enumerates the number of infants and toddlers growing up in low-income families, who are therefore vulnerable during a critical window of their development.
Every child who is income eligible for WIC should have access to this critical program and First Focus is committed to eliminating any barriers for families that may prevent their enrollment.
