Immigration Enforcement

Immigration enforcement activities by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies have significantly increased over the past decade. Research shows that, on average, one child is affected for every two adults arrested in a worksite raid. These enforcement activities often lead to separation from one or both parents, interruptions in schooling, emotional trauma, and economic hardship. Often, children of apprehended parents are unnecessarily placed in the child welfare system. Our immigration laws should not conflict with the rights of children. First Focus is advocating for policies that would ensure that children are not present or engaged in enforcement activities and that children stay with their families and out of the child welfare system whenever possible.
