Making Children a Priority in Health Reform

Recently, First Focus released the results of public opinion research gauging voters’ attitudes toward covering all children as part of health reform. These remarkable findings demonstrate the widespread support that exists for providing health care coverage to all children in America. This research has also synthesized messages that are most effective to convince the public that protecting children should be a key goal of health reform. The research was conducted by Lake Research Partners, a leading health care polling firm.

The Children's Health Lexicon

First Focus released the findings in a new resource, A Lexicon for Children's Health: Making Children a Priority in Health Reform. The document identifies the best language to use when communicating about the health care needs of children.

These messages should be used when communicating to the public, the media, and lawmakers about the important issues facing children. Please use them in speeches, OpEds, Letters to the Editor, action alerts, correspondence with Members of Congress, and in any other venue where you are talking about the health care needs of children. Incorporate them on your Facebook page, in your Tweets, and in your blog postings. The words, phrases, and tips found in these materials are for all to use in their advocacy to ensure all children get the health care they need.

First Focus Poll:
Children in Health Reform

This First Focus poll reveals overwhelming support for ensuring all children in America are covered as part of health care reform, even if it increases their taxes. The poll also shows strong support for ensuring that children are provided comprehensive benefits as Congress reforms our health care system, such as through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Please use these findings to show your Member of Congress the widespread support for covering every child in America.
