Communications Intern Associate
First Focus is working to make America a better place to be a child and raise children, and is seeking a full-time summer Intern Associate who can help us to effectively communicate the value, impact, and importance of making children and families the priority in federal policy and budget decisions. The Communications Intern Associate works closely with the in-house communications team to implement First Focus’ communications strategy. This individual will gain experience in traditional media outreach, digital communications, social media, website administration, advertising development, and internal communications. This position provides the valuable opportunity to learn alongside policy experts in a variety of social issues that have a profound impact on children and their families, including child health, immigration, child welfare, early childhood, education, and family economics.
First Focus is a bipartisan advocacy organization dedicated to making children and families the priority in federal policy and budget decisions. First Focus takes a unique approach to children’s advocacy, engaging both traditional and non-traditional partners in a broad range of efforts to increase federal investments in programs that address the needs of our nation’s children. In all of our work, we seek to raise awareness regarding public policies impacting children and families and to ensure that related programs have the resources necessary to help children grow up in a healthy and nurturing environment.
This position is a part-time fall position. Hours and dates are flexible to accommodate the Intern Associate’s school term. This position offers a stipend, and we will work with students to help obtain college credit.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the communications team
- Monitoring coverage of issues impacting children and families
- Updating content and features on the organization’s two websites
- Assisting with website redevelopment and content migration
- Optimizing email and advocacy efforts by drafting fundraising and action alerts
- Maintaining the organization’s social media profiles through follower and content curation
- Researching media outreach opportunities, and building and updating media lists
Requirements include:
- Passion for children’s advocacy and issues that impact kids and their families
- Strong communication skills, including classroom or internship experience drafting collateral materials, engaging in media communications, and building and maintaining media lists
- Enthusiasm to learn and gain experience in non-profit communications
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
